ION Group was targeted and successfully attacked on or about 31 January 2023 by LockBit, an Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) actor, which operates an illicit Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) business. The attack appears to have targeted ION Group's Cleared Derivatives Division and caused widespread market disruption. ABN Amro, Macquarie, RBC, Intesa Sanpaolo were among impacted firms; overall, 42 of ION's clients are known to have been affected
